PARENTS... (please read)

Today I received a letter from Ann Davenport, Commissioner of the SCVA, that I have been asked to share with you.

It reads...

The SCVA has provided guidelines for the Junior Girls' Programs with regards to tryouts.

The tryout period has NOT run smoothly. A formal investigation by the SCVA Ethics & Eligibility Commmittee & further possible investigations are clear indications that the girls programs need to be reminded of the SCVA guidelines.

The SCVA Ethics & Eligibility Committee remind all club directors and coaches of the following:

            1. No tryout may be held prior to the tryout date:

              a. Oct. 1st for 14's and younger...

              b. Nov. 8th for 15's & 16's divisions...

              c. Nov. 15th for 17's & 18's divisions

            2. Clinics are acceptable prior to a tryout date; however, no player may be evaluated at a clinic.

            3. Private lessons are acceptable prior to a tryout date.

            4. No Club Director and/or Coach may send any form of unsolicited communication (including but not limited

to mail, email, or telephone calls) to players or potential players prior to the tryout date.

These guidelines  were established by the SCVA board of directors in 2007 in an ATTEMPT to PROTECT junior players and their families. The SCVA asks that club directors share this letter with all coaches, staff & PARENTS.

PARENTS...

As a Club Director for 15 years in Ventura County...

I ENCOURAGE you to contact Ann Davenport at (714) 917 3595 and let her know of any SUSPECT behavior.

So, my advice to you... when your daughter is trying out for a club this season...

After a tryout... if they ask you to play (commit) tell them sure if you like what they have to offer, but don't give them a dime!

They can NOT offer a spot on a team before:

 Nov. 8th  for the 15's & 16's

& Nov. 15th for the 17's & 18's!

Also, they (clubs) can NOT have a commitment (ask for monies) date any earlier than:

Nov. 23rd for the 15's & 16's

& Nov. 30th for the 17's & 18's

These rules/dates are in place to give you, the PARENTS, the power (not us) to make a VERY educated decision about where your daughter will be playing club this year. Go to as many tryouts as you can... YOU can learn a lot about a club by just watching their tryouts. Meet the director, meet the coaches, ask questions... and if you are not sure what to ask, talk with parents who have been involved with club for a few years. I hope this helps you make a GOOD decision about club this season, and I really hope I can have an opportunity to show you what Pacific Volleyball Club can offer.

Thank you,

Kevin Judd
